This solution looks to benefit vulnerable women in Sierra Leone with little access to formal schooling, by testing ways to improve their access to financial products and building their financial numeracy skills. In previous projects, this has been done via an ‘oral information management’ (OIM) solution that ‘oralizes’ the transaction records used by an NGO or a microfinance institution.

This innovation is creating and testing a library of OIM icons and generic OIM forms with women in four representative locations around the country.
Work is progressing in partnership with a team from the Sierra Leone central bank, financial services providers, and a women’s life skills organization.

Central bank staff and key practitioners are being trained and earning professional certification as partners in integrating OIM into its national financial literacy program.
