Healing in Harmony (HiH) reaches out to men and women survivors of violence from Mulamba, Walungu, and surrounding areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Addressing both the gender and geographical inequities in access to mental health care in the DRC, this music therapy program uses a unique blend of culturally appropriate cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and music therapy.
This testing innovation is connecting trauma survivors with trained clinical psychologists and professional music producers while integrating a gender-transformative approach that responds to the unmet needs of men and boys in Eastern DRC, so they can better support women in their community.
To respond to the needs of survivors in remote rural regions of DRC, the project is also testing the use of mobile studios using vehicles that are common throughout the region, equipped for all-terrain travel, and solar powered.
